Seattle, Washington, March 2013. I was in Seattle this weekend for work, and because this was my first visit to the city, I was obliged to check out the Space Needle. While I really enjoyed the tower, the weather was, almost unfortunately, perfect, and so getting an interesting shot from the top, in the middle of a sunny day, was pretty much impossible.
Right next to the needle was the Chihuly Garden and Glass, which I knew nothing about, but they were offering a package deal for the two attractions and so I decided to push my luck. Once inside I immediately recognized Chihuly’s work, mainly from his Fiori di Como installation in the lobby of the Bellagio in Vegas.
This is the first shot I’m putting up that was taken with the Sony RX1 (which I’m kind of in love with), and is mostly straight out of the camera (I made some minor edits to hide some of the light reflecting off the walls, and rotated the image–this piece actually is installed vertically, with the wide part at the top). I think I took about 15 shots of this before I was satisfied. For what it's worth, I'd say this piece was ~10 feet tall.
